Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria takes a stand against discrimination and homophobia in all forms

In line with BNP Paribas’ global commitment to fighting discrimination and promoting diversity, Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria organizes an essay contest for high-school students called “The Others beside Me”. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of prejudice and discrimination and promote understanding and respect toward all members of society. The three best essays will receive special awards.

BNP Paribas places particular priority on fighting all forms of discrimination and promoting equal opportunities for people, regardless of their origin, age, disability or gender. For many years now BNP Paribas has been committed to openness and diversity through various projects: Project Banlieues, the Parenthood Charter, the Train for Employment and Equal Opportunities, the “Mix City” initiative set up to facilitate the inclusion of women in senior management positions, etc.

National High School Essay Contest
Organized by Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria

Subject of the essay: “The others beside me”
Purpose: Against ethnical discrimination and homophobia in all forms
Essay requirements: Up to 10 000 symbols or 5 standard pages (handwritten works will be also accepted).
Eligible participants: High-school students from 8th to 12th grade
Awards: 1st place – 500 BGN (€ 250); 2nd place – 300 BGN(€ 150); 3rd place – 100 BGN (€ 50)
Jury:
Bilyana Kurtasheva – Literary Critique, Theory of Literature and Creative Writing Lecturer at the New Bulgarian University;
Marin Bodakov – Poet, Editor of “Kultura” newspaper, Publicism and Critic Lecturer at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”;
Nadezhda Radulova – Poet, Translator, Chief Editor of “Altera” Publishing House.
Deadline for submitting of essays: 1st May 2011

Essays are to be sent as attached files accompanied by a short introduction of the author (name, location, school, grade and contact data) via e-mail address bulgaria_bnpparibas@bnpparibas.com or post address: 2, Tzar Osvoboditel, Blvd., Sofia 1000, BNP Paribas S.A. – Sofia Branch (for the contest “The others beside me”).

Questions can be sent via e-mail address drugitedomen@abv.bg or via post to the above mentioned address.
Results will be announced at a special ceremony organized by Foundation BNP Paribas. Awarded essays will be published.
