Following “Earth from Above”, Yann Arthus-Bertrand has embarked on another ambitious project called 6 billion Others. The video project paints a portrait of man at the beginning of the 21st century, highlighting both the universal and individual aspects of responses to major questions affecting humanity collected from people living all over the world. What is happiness? What can we learn from the challenges we face? What is the meaning of life?
Today over 3,600 interviews have been filmed in 55 countries. They provide a clear outline of what separates us as human beings but also shows what we have in common. An additional 2,400 interviews will be carried out by the end of 2007.
This project will culminate in an exhibition that will open in Paris in early 2008, before beginning its world tour and featuring on television around the globe.
In the run up to 2008, the dedicated website www.6billionothers.org dedicated to the project is live.
Moreover, BNP Paribas and 6 Billion Others will be available to the public in the form of short extracts from these interviews, which will be broadcast on international television and available within in-flight entertainment on numerous airlines in 2007.
Strong social and ethical values are integral to BNP Paribas and we appreciate that progress is impossible without respecting diversity. Far from developing along uniform lines, BNP Paribas makes every effort to reconcile world-wide influence with true respect for local cultures. The Group is present in 85 countries on five continents, and includes employees and partners from more than 100 different nationalities. BNP Paribas Group is driven by the conviction that great global companies have an important influence on local society. When Yann Arthus-Bertrand contacted BNP Paribas management and staff in early in 2005, they were impressed by the similarity between the underlying values of the Group and the message of diversity conveyed by the 6 Billion Others project. This is why the two parties decided to launch this unprecedented partnership between a major international business and a work of creative insight that marries artistic and human values on a planetary scale.
