Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria engages in promoting diversity and fighting discrimination by launching a second edition of the essay competition “The Others beside Me”

Following BNP Paribas Group’s global engagement to fighting discrimination and promoting diversity, Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria organizes for a second year in a row an essay competition for high-school students called “The Others beside Me”.

The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness for equality among people and to pay attention to the increasing need for understanding and openness toward all members of society. The three best essays will be awarded at a special ceremony.

Being a leading global institution, BNP Paribas considers its duty to implement sustainable corporate philanthropy policy and sees responsibility for social welfare as its priority task. Special focus is set on promoting equal opportunities for people, regardless of their social status, religious views, disability or sexual orientation.

During the past few years, BNP Paribas has supported and encouraged diversity through several projects: Project Banlieues, the Parenthood Charter, the Train for Employment and Equal Opportunities, the “Mix City” initiative set up to facilitate the inclusion of women in senior management positions, etc.

National High School Essay Competition
“The Others beside Me”
Organized by Foundation BNP Paribas Bulgaria

Subject of the essay:“The Others beside Me”

Purpose: Against ethnical discrimination and homophobia in all forms

Essay requirements: Up to 10 000 symbols or 5 standard pages (handwritten works will be also accepted).

Language: Bulgarian or English. If an essay written in English is among the winners, it has to be translated in Bulgarian by its author.

Eligible participants: High-school students from schools in Bulgaria, 8th to 12th grade

Awards: 1st place – 500 BGN; 2nd place – 300 BGN; 3rd place – 100 BGN

Bilyana Kurtasheva – Literary Critique, Theory of Literature and Essay Writing Lecturer at the New Bulgarian University;
Marin Bodakov – Poet, Editor of “Kultura” newspaper, Publicism and Critic Lecturer at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”;
Nadezhda Radulova – Poet, Translator, Editor at “Prosveta” Publishing House.

Deadline for submitting of essays: 20th October 2012
Essays are to be sent as attached files accompanied by a short introduction of the author (name, location, school, grade and contact data) via e-mail: or post address:
